John Vasser Williams

John Vassar Williams was born on Aug 30, 1930 in Washington DC to Mattie McRae and Chancellor Williams and was called home at the great age of 92 on April 21, 2023.

John Williams was a retired military Colonel, and a retired Probation Officer of the Cook County Juvenile Court. John also was a Chaplain while he served in the Army,  a minister for Progressive Baptist Church and Coppin AME.

John Served in the Army from July 6, 1959 through November 30, 1978.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal,  the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Amy Commendation Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster.

He had a passion for Education. He attended Howard University, University of Oklahoma, the Alfred Adler Institute of Chicago where her earned Bachelor’s and Master Degrees. He often shared a lot of his scholarly and life lessons through his sermons that he preached on third Sunday’s.

John was generous to a fault always providing and looking out for the needs of others. Whether it was family, neighbors in the community or the less fortunate, he would always give what he had. He will be missed by his family, his friends and so many more who were touched by his kind spirit!

John is survived by his Children from his  marriage to Beatrice Bryant : John V Williams Jr, Gregory Williams, Kenneth Williams, Diahann Goode ( Anson W Goode Sr) and Keith Williams.
