Augustin 'Gus' Galeas, born on August 26, 1946, passed away unexpectedly on October 3, 2024. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband, uncle, brother, son, and friend, cherished by all who knew him.
As one of four remaining siblings from a family of seven, Gus was a loving son to Efrain and Eulalia Galeas. He is survived by his devoted wife, MaryJo, who stood by his side for 35 years, 10 of those in marriage. He is also survived by his son, Dewey, and daughters Traci and Lindsay, along with his four granddaughters, Micaela, Madison, Chloe, and Karynah. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers Efrain and Dewey, and his sister Eulalia "Lolly."
He is preceded in death by his parents, Efrain and Eulalia, as well as his brothers Henry, Fernando, and Armando, and sister Margaret. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Marie, the mother of his children.
A proud veteran, Gus served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He lived in Oak Forest for over 50 years, where he raised his family and became a beloved friend to many. Known for his adventurous spirit, he often took neighborhood kids hiking and hunting and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Gus had a fulfilling career as a truck driver, where he made many lasting friendships and was also a skilled self-taught mechanic. He could often be found working on friends' and family members' cars in his garage, always willing to share his knowledge and expertise. A true country music lover, he could often be found wearing his signature cowboy hat and boots, embodying the spirit of the music he loved. He had a deep appreciation for animals and nature, which he shared with his granddaughters, instilling in them the same love for the outdoors.
Gus loved his family unconditionally and would go to great lengths to support them. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Gus' life will be announced at a later date.
