Barbara J. Green-Works was born on August 4, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Leon C. Green and Dethel [Blackmond] Green]. Both her parents and oldest brother, Leon C. During the summer of 1959, Barbara met Clarence E. Works her future husband while attending church services, at his father’s church, The North Side Church of God in Christ, Chicago, Illinois, as he sang praises of God from the choir stand.  From that moment on both of their lives changed forever. The two of them were inseparable.  Under the guidance of both families Barbara’s relationship with Clarence matured thus seeding an everlasting love affair that lasted over 60-plus years. During Barbara’s teenage years she enjoyed living at home with her parents and siblings, going to church, roller skating, going to the movies with Clarence, attending activity nights at Waller High School and Wells High School, dancing, attending the ROTC Ball at Waller High School with Clarence and her career in modeling clothes at Macys downtown showroom in Chicago, Illinois. She was a good-looking young lady and she knew it. Barbara loved her life and she showed it. After receiving numerous proposals of marriage from Clarence Barbara and Clarence were happily married in Holy Matrimony on, August 1, 1962.  Barbara’s husband, Clarence, was an active-duty officer in the US Army therefor Barbara would join him wherever he was stationed around the world.

To the union of Barbara Jean Green-Works and Clarence Edward Works two children were born, Phillip Works and Bridget Ann Works. Each of them will always cherish and love their mother. Barbara would also ensure, when asked, that her siblings had transportation, housing, food, and clothing by assisting them in their endeavors to obtain these services and/or items. Barbara loved family and would try to keep everyone in good spirits. Barbara invited them to church affairs, her home for dinner and/or birthday parties, lavish ballroom celebrations, and paid vacations.

Barbara loved God and was an avid church goer and attended church regularly with her husband at Apostolic Faith Church of God, Chicago, Illinois.
