Dorothy Jean Adams

Dorothy Jean Adams affectionately known as “Sista” was born February 16, 1952 in Tunica Mississippi to the union of Lamb Moore Sr. and Lizzie Bernice Moore. She was the ninth of ten children, and the youngest daughter, which is how she obtained the nickname “Baby Sister”, “Sista” for short. At a young age Dorothy’s family relocated to Chicago, IL where she continued to reside. Also, at a very young age, she confessed her life to Christ. Dorothy was a faithful member of Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. She attended school in the Chicago School District and graduated from Dunbar Vocational High School. Shortly after graduating high school, Dorothy married Sammie Clinton Adams. Later in life, she remarried, to Albert “Castle” Spencer. Dorothy worked for the United States Postal Service for many years before having to take an early medical leave. She became a stay-at-home mom raising her children and grandchildren, as well as, her nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a gentle, sweet and quiet soul who lived a very reserved life. Although quiet, those she encountered were touched by her kindness. She most enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking, baking, and became a master chef in her own right. Who could ever forget her famous peanut butter cookies! Dorothy was always singing and had a song to sing when family would visit. She enjoyed laughing and joking with her family and always had a smile that could light up the darkest room. Even in dull moments, Dorothy would smile and no one would ever know anything was bothering her. Her spirit was comforting, her voice soothing, and her smile was contagious.

Just as quiet and peacefully Dorothy lived her life, she was quietly and peacefully called home to be with the lord on February 2, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents; Lamb Moore Sr. and Lizzie Bernice Moore; her late husband Albert “Castle” Spencer; five siblings; Lamb Moore Sr. (Mary), Walter Moore, Frenetter Moore, Betty Moore, and Robert Lee Moore Sr. (Peggy). She leaves to carry on her legacy three sons; Raymond Moore, David Moore and Clinton Adams; one daughter, Cynthia Adams; eight grandchildren; Dikembwe Moore, DaJuan Adams, Amber Moore, Ahshani Moore, David Moore Jr., Raymon Moore, Rasheed Moore, Jasmine Moore and Khaliya Adams; and one great grandson, Kamarion Cheeks. Four Siblings; Ora Berkhalter (George), Rosie Jacox, Willie Moore (Burnett) and John Moore Sr. (Queen); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy’s life was a blessing, and her memory a treasure. She will be loved beyond words and truly missed beyond measure.
