Hettie Jewel Honey

August 5, 1941 — January 17, 2018

On August 5, 1941, in Louisville, Mississippi, Peavy and Maudean Eiland rejoiced in the birth of their 7th child and first daughter, Hettie Jewel , she was affectionately known by her family as Sista . Hettie confessed Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Louisville, MS. She was educated in the Louisville school system. Hettie played basketball for Louisville High School. After graduating from Louisville High in 1960, she moved to Chicago. In January of 1961, Hettie met Charles Honey. On October 10, 1964, Hettie and Charles were united in holy matrimony by the late Rev. Clarence Jones. To this union four children were born. Charles and Hettie’s 42 year union was broken with the passing of Charles on September 29, 2006. They spent their life together raising their children and loving their grandchildren. They enjoyed watching basketball together, visiting their friends, thrift shopping and going to garage sales. Hettie worked for Lowrey Electronic, Wesley Jessen Corporation and Keebler Cookie Company. She was a dedicated and loyal employee. Hettie retired from Keebler Cookie Company in 1995. She spent her retirement enjoying her children, family and friends. Hettie had a sweet, gently and loving spirit. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time bonding with them. Her grandchildren all had a special bond with her -- combing her hair, painting her nails, accompanying her to her doctor visits, driving her to errands and having long phone calls and conversations with her. Hettie loved the sport of basketball and would attend an occasional Bulls game. Her sons made sure she had her cable NBA Package. She enjoyed gatherings with her children and family. She enjoyed shopping and outings with her friends. She was a member of Sunday School Class No. 2 and sang in the United Bereavement Choir. She loved United and the United church family. She had a strong relationship with Jesus Christ and always praised his name. .
