Iris Patricia Letcher

September 27, 1952 — May 29, 2020

Iris Patricia Letcher was born on September 27, 1952, to the union of Edna Stancel and Anondaz Letcher in Natchez MS. Shortly after her birth the family relocated to Chicago, IL.  Pat, as she was affectionately called, attended Suder Elementary School and graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago.  Pat completed an optometric technician program where she excelled at the top of her class, often teaching the class in her instructor’s absence.  Pat worked at Johnson Products Co., until 1993, when the company went out of business.

Pat was raised in the Church of Christ.  She knew Christ as her Lord and Savior and began to openly profess her faith before she passed.  Pat loved trivia, movies and reading.  In her free time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and word games.  She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her fried chicken.  Pat was devoted to family.  She and her mother Edna, adopted five kids and she raise Dante as her very own.  She was always a part of her nieces and nephews’ life, often babysitting and spending time with them.  She was known to mentor numerous children in the neighborhood.  One of Pat’s proudest moments was on December 24, 2015, when she became grandmother to Brooklyn Janae.

Pat is preceded in death by her father Anondaz, Sr. and younger brother Anondaz, Jr.  She leaves to cherish her memory her mother Edna, her daughter Dante, and five sisters; Betty, Terez (Efrem), Shayrice, Kaylyn, and Jordyn.  Two brothers; Labrett Sr. (Karen) and Taylor.  Three nephews; Eric, Labrett, Jr. and Jair.  Five nieces; Noelle (Robin), April, Terrisha, Ashley (Pierrie) and LaSaundra.

EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE

Pat Dearest, we were not just mother and daughter, but we were friends.  We spent a lot of years together. Things will not be the same without you but one day we will be together again because God is Good all the time, and all the time God is Good.  Momma

Dear Pat, you were always a loving, protective and funny sister.  For most of our grammar school years it was just the two of us (the other kids were too young).  We went to Union Park pool every day in the summers.  We traveled to the Regal Theater for concerts on the bus from the Westside; and let’s not forget the amusement park, Riverview.  We slept in the same room, sometimes the same bed—no one had their own bedroom back then.  In recent years we spent a lot of time in emergency and hospital rooms where we bonded again and talked a lot about the “old” days.  We were ride and die partners in those formative years.  You will always be in my heart, RIP younger sister. I love you.  Betty Ann

Dear Pat, you helped me so much with raising my kids. You and I often joked about your being the daddy who went off to work every day and me being the stay at home mom!! We got along so well, shared so many laughs and you always had my back. I couldn’t have done it without you. I will forever love you. Your little sister Renae

To my sister Pat whom I love dearly, you were sweet as pie.  You showed me what unconditional love was and you were never judgmental.  My mother and sisters made me the man I am today.  I’m so grateful.  Brett

Dear Pat, you were my diary whenever I needed someone to just listen without a judgmental ear.  You were the best Auntie to Aiden.  We are going to miss you very much.

Love, Shay and Aiden

Dear Mommy, my best friend of 24 years, my heart is completely broken.  Nothing in life could ever prepare me for this moment. We went from you taking us anywhere we wanted to go; to me having to take you…I’d give up the world just to see your face again.  I need you here, but I guess God needed you more.  Brooke was the last person you spoke to and I’ll never let her forget you.  I’ll never be ready to accept the fact that you’re gone, but I guess this is my new reality.  I love you for life and please watch over us.  Dante and Brooke

Dear Pat, I love you and I’m really going to miss you, but I’m glad that you are at peace.  Taylor

Pat, I would’ve never thought this could be for real, that you would actually not be here.  It breaks my heart.  I never truly knew what the words “I miss you” meant until you left us.  I am going miss making you cry, laugh and beg me to stop being funny.  I am going to miss you screaming my name.  You were the smartest person on this earth to me.  You literally raised me with momma; I had the two best moms in the world.  Thanks for always caring and loving me. It’s never goodbye.  See you later, Kaylyn

Dear Pat, they told me to call you Auntie Pat, but you really were my sister. However, even that was the wrong title; you were more of a mom to me.  You always understood me and you made me feel comfortable.  Every conversation felt like a safe space where I could say how I really felt.  I will always have the memories we shared to put a smile on my face.  You will always be in my heart.   Love, Jordyn

Auntie Pat, thank you for always being a listening ear.  I will miss your naughty sense of humor.  I will miss being able to discuss the latest movies and television shows with you.  SYOTOS (See you on the other side.)  Love, Noni

Auntie Pat, you were a vault, I knew my candy and my money were safe with you, LoL.  You taught me to love the finer things like Oreos, Haagen-Dazs and steak, medium rare.  I remember when I was a little girl you made me order my own food when we went out to eat.  I didn’t realize it then but you were teaching me confidence.  I use the life lesson you taught me every day and when I teach them to my children, I think of you.  You were an awesome Aunt. We love you forever.   April, Inshallah & Selah

To my Aunt Pat, thank you for being one of my biggest supporters and my listening ear.  You had the best personality and I could always count on you for a goodtime.  You made me feel like I could do anything.  I’ll always cherish our time together and the light you brought to my life.  Love always, Ashley, Gavin, Gianna and Ashton

When I first met Pat, I was intimidated.  She kept her watchful eyes on Renae and her girls.  She was very happy when Ashley was born and when we were married.  I loved my sister-in-law.  Efrem

Dear Aunt Pat, I want you to know that I appreciate all that you did for me, babysitting and imparting your wisdom.  Rest well, rest peacefully.  Love, Eric

No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away.  The ripple effect of your love will never die.  Love, LaSaundra, Brett Jr. and Jair

Dear Pat, thank you for being my “Auntie.”  Tyree

Dear Auntie Pat, you taught me so many random facts about everything!  You were there to listen when no one else would.  And, you gave Amaya her first chicken bone, LoL.  I am forever grateful for God bringing you into my life and I am glad my children will have memories of you as well.  We love you forever and always.  Terri

Dear Auntie Pat, you were a mother, a daughter, a sister an aunt and a grandma.  You are so loved.  You were an amazing Auntie and you gave me things that I still use to this day.  Know that my siblings and I will miss you a lot.  I hope you and Cody are having so much fun in Heaven.  We love you, Amaya, Avani and Amari

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and sincerely thank you for

your kind expressions of sympathy.

John 11:25-26
