James Henry Haynes was born May 31, 1933 in Webb, Mississippi to William and Bessie Haynes.

At the age of 2, his family moved to Chicago, IL to pursue a more prosperous life. James attended Gladstone Elementary School, Crane High School and Wilson City College. He also served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged on August 11, 1956. On October 18, 1958, he married Sandra Handy (who preceded him in death), to their union two beautiful daughters were born: Kimberly Jeanine and Kara Jocelyn (who also preceded him death).

James worked over 30 years with Western Electric and the United States Postal Service until his retirement. His spiritual walk began at an early age. James became a faithful, devoted member of Apostolic Church of God in 1990. He was very passionate in his love for the Lord, attending church every Sunday. James met the love of his life and on October 1, 2014 he married, Vernita Jefferson. James was a caring, giving and devoted husband until his death. He was a wonderful Dad to his daughter, plus all the children who called him “Dad” or “Pops”.

James enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved watching all the Chicago sports teams play, playing golf, cards and going to the casino with his wife Vernita. He was also a member of the Westside Old Timers Bunch. He fought a good fight and has finished his course. James will be missed and always remain in our hearts.
