Jemina L. Harris

October 11, 1973 — November 15, 2021

Jemina Laverne Harris was born on October 11, 1973 in Chicago, IL to Charles L. Harris Sr. and Ruth L. Jones. Jemina was the eldest daughter, the second born of twelve children, and a twin sister to Charles.

Jemina loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at God’s All Nations Penecostal Church. Growing up, she played the flute and enjoyed singing in various choirs such as God’s All Nations Pentecostal Church Choirs, Greater Way Missionary Baptist Church Choir, and Delegation for Christ Chorale to name a few. She attended Austin Community and Career Academy for high school and continued her studies at College of Dupage with a focus in dietetics to one day serve the elderly as a Dietician.

Jemina was a family-oriented person and enjoyed doing activities such as bowling, singing and photography. She was someone who cared deeply about each family member, making sure they felt seen and accepted for who they were. In this digital technology-driven age, she was known to maintain close contact with friends and family, consistently picking up the phone to rally them for events, to offer support, and to plan gatherings.

Jemina was caring, loving, hilarious, hardworking, positive, dedicated, sassy, strong-minded, beautiful, and intelligent to name a few of her traits.

Jemina was our beacon of light. Jemina worked faithfully at Fedex for ten years where she also recruited her children. Her impact on those arounds her continued when she began working as a public transportation operator in 2018 with First Transit. She had a passion for driving the elderly, and did so during her career with the company. She also regularly volunteered her time serving senior citizens.

One of Jemina’s most important accomplishments was being a mother to her two beautiful children Jelisa (Lisa Harris) and Hezekiah White. She introduced her children to Jesus Christ at a young age and raised them in the church. Following her lead as a true worshipper, her children were also dedicated to serving the Lord. She was very proud of her children and was there for every moment, big or small, to support them and cheer them on.

On Monday, November 15, 2021 at 2:45pm, God called Jemina home at the age of 48.
