Karen Ann Powell

Karen Ann Powell was born to Perdell Jackson and Charlotte L Miller Jackson on August 3rd, 1944. She was proceeded in death by her parents and three brothers Reggie, Donald, and Kenneth.

Karen was born in Chicago, IL. She attended Farroget high school. She was a very determined free spirited child. She was baptized as a child. At a young age she met and married William Wig Powell and they moved to Maywood, IL. Where they lovingly raised three children. Ronald, Anthony, and Sheila. Karen worked at Borg Warner, General Motors, and later decided to pursue a new career where she became a Phlebotomist and was employed at Hines VA Hospital.

Karen and William later divorced but remained friends and continued to love their children and raise them together. William proceeded her in death. She later met William Bo Martin and they shared great times together for many years. He also proceeded her in death.

She loved watching sports, and was on a bowling league for many years. Karen loved fishing and then making a delicious catfish meal and would feed everyone. She had a huge personality and sense of humor. From the moment she met you she would treat you as if she had known you for years. She would tease you, and tell you exactly what was on her mind.

Karen loved being around her family, and her smile would light up the room and the fun would began.

Her relationship with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews was special and different with each one of them. Everyone has a funny story to tell about Karen affectionately known as Granny. Karen was known for taking in children and putting them on the path to happiness.

She loved Donnell Lewis and Dominique Timmons as if they were her own son's. She did not have any sister's, but loved her sister-in-law's like they were her sister's.

Within the family we would often joke that she was going to outlive us all, but on July 12, 2021 God called his daughter with the big personality home. Karen is now reunited with her parent's and brothers and you can bet she is making them laugh. She will be missed by many.

Karen leaves to cherish her memory three children. Ronald (Charlotte), Anthony, Sheila. Nine grandchildren. Shanelle, Rahel, Darryl, Brittany, Ferris, Kory, Shannon, Ashanti, Kolbi. Eleven great grand - children. One great, great grandson. Four Sister in law's, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousin’s and friends.
