On June 18, 1956 an ANGEL was born to Katy Paty Porter and Enoch Porter in Chicago, IL. LaDonna, affectionately known as “Donna” by her brothers and sisters was the fourth born of five children. Both parents and three siblings: Eneice Riggens, Marvin Doyle and Francine Jennings, one granddaughter Chasadie Porter preceded her in death.
At an early age LaDonna accepted Christ into her life. She became a young teen mom at the age of 15 when she had her son yet she strived for excellence graduating from Calumet High School and continued to pursue her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science from Saint Xavier University to become a Registered Nurse.
The nursing field is what led LaDonna to meet her husband Wardell, in the early 1980s while she was working at a clinic he lucked up by getting treated by the prettiest nurse and she agreed to a date. LaDonna and Wardell welcomed a baby girl in January of 1984 and were married on August 19, 1984. For 37 years they shared love and laughter with family and friends.
LaDonna touched many lives both personally and professionally. She worked in various hospitals in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs but she spent well over a decade of her career nursing veterans at the Jesse Brown V.A. Hospital in Chicago, IL. Her colleagues at the V.A. described her as an “Awesome Preceptor” and “Amazing Nurse”
Outside of her career “Giving” and “Helping” others is what LaDonna did best, she loved to be the center of attention at parties, traveling, bowling and going to concerts. LaDonna had a special bond with her nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She made a point to ensure “Aunt Donna” and “Grandma” had their back and loved them unconditionally. As a wife she was a helpmate to her husband, as a mother to her children she was the biggest fan and critic, as a sister she was always there for her siblings.
Our beloved was called home on April 12, 2022 with her family by her side. LaDonna inspired and touched many lives, she was loved by many and will truly be missed beyond measure.
