On December 11, 1964, Our Angel Neysa Michelle Scott was

born to Nelson and Alice Scott in Chicago, Illinois. She was the
Amazing daughter of two wonderful parents. "Big Sis" as she was
affectionately known by her brother, Kenyatta, could always be
seen Leading, Assisting, *or Initiating her Spirit in any endeavor. As
a little girl she loved music in all forms, especially Gospel, which
led to her early introduction to the Church.

Neysa was a Spiritual soul and accepted Christ at an early age

at Paradise Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. Always loyal to
friendships and bonds, she shared this journey of Baptism with her
life long friend Jose Haney. The bright eyed chocolate little girl we
all loved went to Holy Angels Grammar School where her amaz-
ing energy first began to embrace and grab the hearts of classmates
and teachers alike.

Her quick wit and infectious personality along with undeniable
talent was hard to ignore by anyone who graced the halls of that
school. The long hours rehearsing with Ms. Ju Wan, her favorite
grammar school teacher, showed at an early age her persistence for
perfection. It was during these years Neysa harnessed her talent at
Sammy Dyer School of the Theatre on the southside of Chicago.
She excelled in Jazz Dance, Ballet, Drama, Tap, and Gymnastics
just to name a few

Neysa furthered her education at St. Ignatius College Prep where
she was a member of B.O.S. known as the Black Organization of
Students. Always a trailblazer, she was part of the first female class
that eritered St. Ignatius in the fall of 1979.

Four years later, Neysa proudly entered Howard University where
she continued her education by majoring in Mass Communica-
tions. She absolutely loved her Black College experience where
she delved deeper into her passion for the Arts and Culture. Upon
returning from Howard, Neysa became an avid member of Trinity
United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois.

With her Spiritual growth in full bloom, Neysa continued her
artistic endeavors in creating "Neysaspeaces" her own signature
brand of afrocentric clothing. Through this love of fashion the
famous "Covet" was born. These "Peaces", as Neysa would call
them, were worn by the likes of India Arie, Chaka Khan, and many
friends and associates who admired the uniquely jazzy style of the
clothing. Though her passions ran deep, spoken word was Neysa's
first love. She kept journals of her thoughts which morphed into
beautiful yet powerful Poems. These masterpieces would go on to
captivate audiences of adults and children alike at various venues
around the city.

Never missing an opportunity to spread light, Neysa would
partner with her close friend Yaounde to host their weekly radio
show on WHPK 88.5 FM every Tuesday. If you tuned in you
were privileged to Jazz, Poetry, Magnetic Chemistry amongst
friends, and powerful sociw- commentary that made you think.

Auntie Neysa, as she was known by her nieces and nephews,
was committed to empowering young minds. She especially
loved and admired her children, as she called them, Amber,
Kenyatta, Nyles, Zuri, and Kai. She could always be seen inter-
acting passionately and with a sense of purpose in their many
activities.

On September 9, 2016 our Beautiful Angel felt the need to in-
dulge in a 30 day cleansing fast. She stated: "I desire a cleanse 1
feel will only settle into my spirit and my space when I'm able
to complete the Movement in My Life." Who would've thought
that 30 days later on October 9,2016, Our ArtistlPerformer
would experience her final life production in the presence of a
youth group - to the beat of the Drum Divas. A group that was
hungry for the inspiration and motivation she loved to give. She
suddenly fell ill after that performance and made her transition
7 days later on October 16,2016.

She loves to life her Beautiful parents Nelson and Alice;
brother Kenyatta; nephews Kenyatta and Nyles; niece Amber
and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins .... As Neysa would
always say;." Be Good to Life and Life will be Good to You"!
