Renee Denise Knox Carter

September 19, 1952 — October 14, 2024

Renee Denise Knox Carter, born September 19, 1952 to Christine Holloway in Jacksonville, Florida, was a beacon of love and strength for her family. She journeyed through life with grace and compassion, eventually moving to Illinois, where she created a warm and loving home. Surrounded by her loved ones, Renee transitioned peacefully from this life to Glory on October 14, 2024.

Renee is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Jesse Lee Carter, and their children: Adam Knox (Tasha), the late Paul Berry, the late Jesse Carter Jr., and Jessica Carter. Her cherished memories continue through her mother, Christine Holloway, her sister, Nikki J. Settles, her stepsister Melanie, and her grandchildren, Javier and Romello. She also treasured her step-sisters, Melody Curry from Toledo, Ohio, and Leatha Brown from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In his heartfelt tribute, her husband Jesse shared, “Renee was the love of my life. She was a blessing, and my heart aches for her presence. We joined Lighthouse Church together on Mother’s Day, and it was a joyous occasion that I will always cherish. For over 30 years, she served as a Caseworker with DCFS, touching countless lives. We traveled the world together, creating unforgettable memories in places like Jamaica, Belize, and Honolulu. I am grateful to God for the years we shared.”

With a mother's love, Christine reflected, “Mom, how are you doing? We are here celebrating your life and the wonderful memories we've made together. It’s always been a beautiful journey, filled with both good times and challenges, but nothing could ever change the love I have for you. Until we meet again, love you always.”

Nikki, her sister, beautifully expressed, “A sister's love is a bond that lasts forever. Renee was such a gentle soul, soft-spoken yet overflowing with the love of God. Our special exchanges – 'Hey You' and 'Hey Bud' – are treasures etched in my heart. Growing up together, we shared countless joyful memories. As I celebrate her homecoming, I hold on to the hope of seeing her again in Glory.”

From her granddaughter London, came the touching words, “You will forever be in my heart, Mom. The memories we created and the life lessons you imparted, like never letting anyone steal my joy, will always stay with me. Those Sundays at McDonald's after church and our shared moments of singing will be missed, but I know you are listening. My love for you is deeper than words can express.”

Renee's love also extended to her grandchildren: Kiara, Kayla, P.J., London, Cassidy, Ari, Romello, and Javier, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Princeton. They shared, “There is no one like Granny. She enveloped us with her unconditional love, guiding us even through trouble but always with a warm heart. We love you so much, Granny.”
