Sadie was born to Robert and Ruby Mitchell on January 12, 1931 in Lynch Kentucky. Her greatest memories as a child was playing on the hill behind her home with her brothers…making it icy in the winter and sliding down. She also loved being with friends and feeling the breeze come from the opening at the coal mine. Sadie enjoyed helping her mother cook at the Greyhound Bus Station. She loved sewing and designing clothes. Her greatest hope as a young adult was to go to New York to study fashion design.

Sadie met and married the love of her life, John W. Hardy when she was 17 years old. Whenever he visited her, he would play, what later became their personal love song, “I Love You For Sentimental Reasons.”John was a WWII Army veteran. A huge part of her treasure, which we still treasure today, are the many love letters that he wrote to her during his time in the military.

John and Sadie’s journey led them to Chicago.Together they parented 3 children: Linda, John and Cedie. Both Sadie and John had a strong hand in ministry. They served together at Stone Temple M. B. Church, Pathway M. B. Church, and First Corinthians M. B. Church. Sometime after John’s call and fulfillment to Pastor, together, they founded Divine Love M. B. Church where they served until his passing in 1984. Sadie then served at Sweet Holy Spirit M. B. Church and finally as Church Mother at her current church, Higher Ground Community Church, where Elder Anthony and Marlene Tyler serve as Pastor and First Lady. After John’s passing,

Sadie developed her role as an independent woman and influential mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She believed in debt free living and successfully managed her own finances and seamstress service. Sadie spent a great deal of her time enhancing the lives of others through her cooking, sewing and decorating skills.
