Wilburt "Wil" Abron, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, at Christ Hospital, at the age of 75. Born in Tyler Town, Mississippi, Wil spent his early years in Franklinton, Louisiana, before making Chicago, Illinois, his home in 1969.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luvester and Lincoln Abron; his son, Christopher Watts (Velina); his sister, Charlene Stewart; his brothers, John Magee, Leroy Abron, Charles Abron, James Abron, Willie Abron, and Walter Abron; and his beloved cousin, Joe Louis Pittman.
Wil has always been a man of faith. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife and best friend of 48 years, Linda "Penny" Abron. He leaves behind his cherished children: daughters Kenya Vaughn (George) and Nicole Abron (Steve), and sons Terrance Abron and Sean Abron. His beloved grandchildren also survive him: Deon Guyon, Keon Guyon, Alanna Clark, Makyla Smith, Le’Sean Abron, Ne’Sean Abron, Jamar Watts, Jayla Watts, and Jordyn Watts.
Wil's memory lives on through his sisters, Vickie Anders (Ben), Cynthia Lewis, and Samantha Abron; his brothers, Kenneth Abron and Robert Abron; and his special cousins, Dollie, Nede, Pedro, and Pete.
Wil graduated from Washington Parish High School and later moved to Chicago where he worked for Frank Miller and Sons, where he met some wonderful friends who became family (Herman & Berniece Funches). He was known for his friendly and outgoing nature - never met a stranger and would strike up conversations with anyone he crossed paths with. His fast-talking, loud laughs, and infectious smile endeared him to all who knew him.
As we mourn his passing, we cherish Wil’s warm heart, quick wit, sense of humor, passion for sports—especially "Da Bears"—deep appreciation for history, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy of kindness and joy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
